COLTON -- Jacob Erdman of Gouverneur had the fastest time in the 16th Colton Winterfest 10 Mile Road Race Jan. 27.
He led a total of 62 competitors in the annual event with a time of 59:05.
Shannon Desrosiers of Colton finished third overall and led the women with a time of 1:05:38.
It was 34 degrees with mostly cloudy skies and a stiff west wind at race time. Roads were covered with hard-packed snow and ice with some bare sections.
Erdman, 21 and a student at Clarkson University, had his second-ever overall win at the Colton 10 Miler this year. His first was in 2013 in 1:02:19 at the age of 16. His 59:05 time becomes the fourth fastest time in course history (Joel Gordon of Hermon set the record in 2005 at 58:25) and makes Jacob one of only five individuals to ever break 60 minutes on the very difficult course.
Desrosiers repeats as the women’s champion in stellar fashion. Running as she did last year to a third-place finish, she picked up her fifth overall women’s win in as many attempts with a course record time of 1:05:38, breaking her previous record. The win set Desrosiers alone as the male or female individual with the most wins in the 16-year race history.
