Goolden’s 11 points lead Roos women's lax past Highlanders, 15-10

Canton, NY – Senior captain Tressa Goolden (Canton, NY) had a hand in 11 different goals as the women's lacrosse team earned a 15-10 victory against visiting Houghton College on Thursday evening.

Both teams got off to a slow start offensively as the visitors opened the scoring 4:13 into the game on Elizabeth Westwood's 15th goal of the season. Goolden answered with her 32nd goal of the season just 11 seconds later to tie the game at one. Robyn Carroll (Bowmanville, ON) netted the Roos next three goals as the game was tied at four with 8:24 remaining in the opening half.

Four different players scored for the Roos in the final 2:54 of the half as they rattled off the final five goals of the half to take an 8-4 lead into intermission. Goolden posted two goals and four assists, while Carroll added four goals and a helper in the opening 30 minutes.

The teams traded a pair of goals in the opening four minutes of the second stanza but SUNY Canton would tally five of the next six goals to take a commanding 15-7 lead en route to the five goal victory.

Goolden had a monster game with five goals and six assists, while Carroll finished with four goals and two assists. Megan Poupore (Massena, NY) recorded a hat trick and Lora Ardoin (Houston, TX) registered two goals and one assist.

Ardoin posted a game-high nine ground balls to go with a team-best four caused turnovers. Goolden finished with a game-high seven draw controls.

The Roos (5-2) controlled shots on goal (33-18) and ground balls (36-27), while Houghton (4-5) held a slim 14-13 edge in draw controls. SUNY Canton was effective with its clear game going 15-for-18 on clear attempts, while the Highlanders were just 13-for-32.

Becca Kieffer (Lee Center, NY) turned aside eight shots in goal for SUNY Canton, while Kourtnie Franklin made 18 saves for Houghton. The Roos are back in action on Saturday when they host Keuka College at 1:00 p.m
