Canton, NY – Senior captain Tressa Goolden (Canton, NY) scored her second and third goals of the season as the SUNY Canton women's soccer team defeated visiting Vermont Technical College, 4-0, Sunday afternoon.

The Roos got on the board first when Fran Trombley (Dekalb Junction, NY) collected a loose ball just in front of goal and played a one-touch pass to Kaleigh Foran (Fort Ann, NY) who placed the ball into the open net. Eleven minutes later Karyss Terrance (Hogansburg, NY) made it 2-0 for the hosts. Goolden had her shot blocked but it deflected directly to Terrance on the left side of the box who blasted a shot into the right corner.

With just more than six minutes remaining in the opening half Goolden corralled a loose ball in the middle of the field taking a few dribbles before beating the keeper into the right corner. Terrance and Goolden both had strikes that clanged off the cross bar as the Roos took a 3-0 lead into intermission.

SUNY Canton controlled play in the second half and with just under 10 minutes to play Katie Lamica (Malone, NY) played a ball up the right side to Goolden. The captain struck a shot across the face of goal that deflected off Vermont Tech keeper Laura Flint and into the goal.

Liz Lynch (North Lawrence, NY) earned her first shutout in goal making one save. Flint turned aside 12 shots for the visitors. The Roos are back in action on Wednesday when they visit Plattsburgh State at 7 p.m.
