Goolden and Rice help Roos women's lax race past Express, 20-6

Canton, NY – The scoring duo of Tressa Goolden (Canton, NY) and Keeley Rice (Potsdam, NY) helped the women's lacrosse team ease past the host Wells Express, 20-6, for their seventh consecutive victory on Thursday.

Goolden netted five goals to go with three assists, while Rice posted a game-high six assists to go with one score as SUNY Canton scored 10 goals in each half en route to their ninth win of the season. Joelle Percy (Black River, NY) and Robyn Carroll added four goals and an assist each.

Marina Fargnoli opened the scoring for Wells (3-8) three minutes in. The Roos (9-4) responded with four straight scores, two of which came off the stick of Percy. The Express responded with three consecutive scores to draw even at 4-4 midway through the opening stanza.

SUNY Canton notched six straight scores, all of which came from different players, as they took a commanding 10-4 lead into the break. The Roos continued to control play out of intermission adding four more markers, three of which were caged by Goolden.

The Roos continued their strong play down the stretch closing out the 20-6 victory. Eight different players scored in the game as Hannah Christiansen (Lake View, NY), Megan Poupore (Massena, NY), Caitlin LaVoie (Fulton, NY) and Brooke Knight (Madrid, NY) all got on the board offensively.

Christiansen had an all around impressive game finishing with two goals, one assist and game-highs of six ground balls, four draw controls and four caused turnovers. Freshman Becca Kieffer (Lee Center, NY) stopped five shots on the day, while Chelse Dann and Brooke Spanbauer combined to make 14 saves for Wells.

The Roos held edges in shots on goal (34-11), ground balls (32-24), turnovers (15-29, and draw controls (17-10).
