Summer Gillespie and Lauren Flynn continued their torrid offensive pace as the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team defeated Elmira 2-0 on Friday afternoon at Hantz Turf Field.

Clarkson moves to a perfect 6-0-0 on the season while Elmira falls to 0-5-0. Six wins in the first six games is the best ever start for the Golden Knights, surpassing the 5-0-0 start in 2011.

After scoring four goals in her first five collegiate games, it did not take long for Gillespie to score her fifth goal. Nearly 17 minutes into the first half, Clarkson won a free kick about 30 yards away from the Elmira goal. Gillespie stepped up to take the kick and laced a shot over the Elmira keeper's head and into the back of the net. It is the second time this season that Gillespie has scored directly from a free kick.

The score remained 1-0 through halftime and through the first 20 minutes of the second half. The Green and Gold added an insurance goal in the 64th minute. Nikki Carfi received the ball on the left side of the box and slipped a pass through to a cutting Flynn. Flynn's one time shot slipped past the goalkeeper for Flynn's fifth goal of the season.

Clarkson's defense was solid all night. They limited Elmira to just eight shots all game, with goalkeeper Anna Demasi making five saves to complete her third shutout of the season. The Golden Knights have allowed just three goals in their first six games.

Overall, Clarkson held a 14-8 advantage in shots and both teams took four corner kicks.

Clarkson will try to extend its winning streak on Saturday afternoon when they host Nazareth for a 2:00 pm game.
