One day after its five game-winning streak was snapped at RIT, the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team bounced back with a 8-7 win over Rochester on Saturday afternoon.

Clarkson now holds a 6-2 record overall and is 1-1 in the Liberty League while Rochester has a 5-4 overall record and is also 1-1 in Liberty League games.

Sophomore Paige Fayette (Theresa, NY) opened the scoring at 27:55 with her ninth goal of the season. Rochester would score next to tie the game at one, but three straight Golden Knight goals, two more by Fayette and one by junior Christine Wright (Watertown, NY), gave Clarkson a 4-1 lead. The Yellow Jackets went on a three goal run of their own to tie the game at 4 at 4:41 in the first. A goal by freshman Taylor Collins (Syracuse, NY) off a pass from Fayette at 3:34 along with a goal by junior Stephanie Lynch (Baldwinsville, NY) at 1:22 gave Clarkson a 6-4 heading into halftime.

Rochester scored the first two goals of the second half to tie the game at 6, but Wright scored a free position goal at 17:22 and her third goal of the game at 7:09 to give Clarkson a 8-6 lead. Rochester drew within one at 2:39 on a free position goal which set up a tense final few minutes. Rochester had a free position shot saved along with a free position attempt with less than a second left. The Yellow Jackets could not get a shot off on that last free position attempt and Clarkson held on for an 8-7 victory.

Junior goalkeeper Dani Tani (Heuvelton, NY) made seven saves in the game. Wright led Clarkson with six points on three goals and three assists while Fayette had four of her own on three goals and one assist. Collins and Wright both had a team-high three groundballs with freshman Lynette Smith (Penn Yan, NY) scooping up two ground balls as well. Clarkson was outshot 25-16, but held a 19-14 advantage in groundballs.

Clarkson will continue Liberty League play on Wednesday when they travel to St. Lawrence for a 4:00 pm game.
