Clarkson University Women’s Hockey standouts, juniors Carly Mercer (Exeter, ONT) and Erica Howe (Ottawa, ONT) were awarded league honors after strong performances in the Golden Knights’ weekend sweep of Harvard and Dartmouth. Mercer was named ECAC Hockey Player of the Week, while Howe was selected ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Week.

Mercer paced the Golden Knights offensively over the weekend with four goals. She recorded her first career hat trick, scoring all three Clarkson goals in the 3-1 victory over the second-ranked Crimson. Mercer also tallied on the power play in the 5-0 win against the Big Green.

Mercer has 13 goals and 22 assists in 26 games this season and has 99 career points (35-64).

Howe allowed just one goal against the traditional conference powers. She set the new Clarkson record for most career wins (50) when she turned aside 18 of 19 Harvard shots on Friday. Howe followed with a 22-save effort in the shutout over Dartmouth, her fifth whitewash of the season and 14th of her career.

Howe posts a .934 save percentage and a 1.65 goals against average through 25 starts in the Knights’ crease.

Clarkson, ranked sixth in the national polls, owns a 20-6 overall record and is tied for second in the ECAC Hockey standings with a 12-2 league mark. The Knights battle archrival St. Lawrence in a home-and-home series this weekend. Clarkson hosts the Saints on Friday in a 3:00 p.m. game at Cheel Arena.
