Poughkeepsie, NY - Two second-half goals transformed a tie into a loss for the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team on Saturday, as the Golden Knights suffered a 3-1 Liberty League defeat at the hands of Vassar College.

The Golden Knights fell to 4-6-1 overall and 1-2-0 in the Liberty League, while Vassar moved to 6-2-2 and 2-0-0. Clarkson will continue its four-game streak of road games next Saturday when it travels to play RIT.

The first half was played fairly evenly in more ways than just the scoreboard as Vassar held just modest advantages in shots (7-5) and corner kicks (2-1). Clarkson got on the scoreboard first with a penalty kick by Zach Godin at 28:04. The marker was Godin's fifth goal of the season and his third tally in as many attempts on penalty shots. The lead was short-lived for the Golden Knights, though as Vassar scored in the 37th minute to tie the game up at 1-1. Tyler Gilmore finished off a cross on a free kick from Gavin Jennings to start the Vassar scoring.

The Brewers maintained their momentum gained from the late first-half goal in the second period, scoring in the 60th minute and then again in the 76th minute. Reid Smith headed in a cross from Cosmo Veneziale at 59:44 and Tom Wiechert added an insurance goal for the Brewers on a penalty shot at 75:43.

Michael King made four saves for the Golden Knights while Sebastien Lasseur matched that total for the Brewers. Vassar finished with a 17-8 edge in shots and a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks. The game also saw eight yellow cards, with each team written up on four occasions.
