Troy, NY - Despite a 20-10 advantage in shots, the Clarkson University Men's Soccer team was unable to convert and lost a tough 1-0 decision to the Sage Colleges on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights fell to 3-2 on the campaign, but the team will close out its season-opening six-game road trip next Saturday when the team travels to take on Plattsburgh State. The Gators evened their season mark at 2-2.

Clarkson started out of the gate in attack mode against the Gators. Junior Drew Lewis had an opportunity right in front of Mike Chriaravalloti that was turned away, and the Knights had a series of corner kicks minutes later that also came up empty. Senior Kevin Calnan followed up by missing high off after controlling a corner kick from John Furcick as the Knights continued to come up empty despite some strong looks. The Sage Colleges responded by registering the next four shots of the game, but sophomore goalkeeper Ian Roeloffs was able to stave off all the chances, including a good opportunity from Kevin Saar to keep the game tied at zero. Late in the half, the Gators had a solid scoring opportunity when Griffin Goodemote had an open look from the right side, but he missed the frame wide left of an outstretched Roeloffs.

The Golden Knights continued to keep up the pace in the game with five shots and four corner kicks in the first 15 minutes of the second half, but still they came up empty. Senior Brian Kroetz was leading the attack by putting three shots that were turned away by Chriaravalloti. In the 63rd minute, the Gators finally broke through to tally what proved to be the game-winner. Ian Roeloffs was able to save the first shot in the offensive rush, but was unable to stop Jeaneste Pierre who gathered the rebound in front and found the back of the net. Though Clarkson took back control of the game and put some good pressure on the Gators defense, they were unable to find the equalizer. The Golden Knights were all over the opposing goal in the last two minutes of play, getting off five shots on goal including a last second attempt from senior Jon Jones, but all attempts were stopped by Mike Chriaravalloti.

Clarkson finished with a 20-10 edge in shots, including a 16-5 edge in the second half. Ian Roeloffs had four saves for the Golden Knights while Mike Chriaravalloti had 12 saves for Sage.
