Three late comebacks helped the Clarkson University Baseball team earn two walk-off wins against Union on Saturday. The two walk-off victories, one by the score of 4-3 and the other 8-7, represented the first time since 2004 that Clarkson had won both games of a doubleheader on their last at bats.

Clarkson is now 12-1 overall and boasts a perfect 6-0 Liberty League record while Union falls to 10-7 and is 6-4 in conference play.

The first game of the pair was a low-scoring affair. Clarkson was able to get on the board in the third inning when sophomore outfielder Connor Dietrich (Freeport, ME) came around to score on a groundout by senior John Coleman (Potsdam, NY). The Dutchmen were able to take the lead when they scored three runs in the top of the fifth. A single by junior Anthony Padrazo (Setaucket, NY) followed by a walk to Coleman gave Clarkson two runners on to start the fifth. A sacrifice by sophomore Paul Ludden (Cicero, NY) moved the two runners to second and third and then a sacrifice fly by junior Greg Jasek (Chittenango, NY) drove in Padrazo and moved Coleman to third. Sophomore Chris Miller (Ballston Lake, NY) followed Jasek with a two out single to center field to score Coleman and tie the game at three.

After a scoreless top of the seventh for Union, sophomore Dom Pirro (Liverpool, NY) opened Clarkson's half of the frame with a single and then advanced to second on an error. After a pop-up by senior Nolan Driscoll (Troy, NY), Dietrich singled to move Pirro to third. Padrazo struck out swinging for the second out of the inning, but Dietrich stole second and then Union intentionally walked Coleman to load the bases. Ludden was able to get his first hit of the game to score Pirro and give the Golden Knights a 4-3 victory.

In the second game, Clarkson opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning. After Coleman struck out, the first time he has done that all season, Ludden singled to left field. Ludden then stole second and advanced to third on a passed ball before scoring on Miller's groundball to second base. Union would regain the lead with a run in the second followed by three in the third. Clarkson runs in the fifth and sixth drew them within one, but Union plated a run in the top of the seventh to make the score 5-3 heading into the bottom of the seventh. Three straight walks to Driscoll, Padrazo, and junior Connor Martin (Baldwinsville, NY) loaded the bases and Coleman's single scored Driscoll and Padrazo to tie the game and send it into extra innings.

The game would remain tied through the eighth and ninth innings before Union was able to score twice in the top of the tenth. Miller started the bottom of the tenth with a double and then advanced to third on a balk. Jasek reached on an error that also allowed Miller to score. After a ground out by freshman Willie Coleman (Potsdam, NY), Pirro stepped up and crushed a home run down the left field line to win the game for Clarkson.

Jasek started the first game for Clarkson on the mound and allowed one run on just two hits and had four strikeouts in four innings of work. Sophomore Ted Wilson (Lancaster, NY) pitched the final three innings, allowing only two runs and picking up the win. Junior Ian Castle (East Greenbush, NY) started the second game, going six innings and allowing four runs. Freshman Andrew Smith (Carthage, NY) pitched the final four frames, giving up three runs on four hits while getting the victory.

Clarkson will play another doubleheader with Union on Sunday, with the first game starting at 12:00 noon.
