Freshman Greg Jasek (Chittenango, NY) tossed a seven-inning complete game shutout for the Clarkson University Baseball team this past weekend and was rewarded for his effort on Monday when he was selected as the Liberty League Rookie of the Week.
Jasek became the first pitcher this season to blank St. Lawrence University in conference action, shutting down the potent Saints' offense through seven innings for a 4-0 victory. He scattered seven hits and allowed a pair of walks while throwing his second complete-game shutout of the year. Additionally, Jasek spent the weekend as the clean up hitter for the Golden Knights, batting .417 (5-for-12) with a double, triple, stolen bases, and three runs driven in.
Jasek finished off his freshman campaign with an earned run average of just 1.88 thanks to his two complete-game shutout efforts. He ranked among the national leaders all season in fewest walks per nine innings, giving up just four free passes (including one intentional walk) in 48 innings. He allowed just a .207 opponents batting average and had four complete games. In the batter's box, Jasek led the Golden Knights with 18 RBI, and batted .289 in 76 at bats.
