BROCKPORT, N.Y.—The College at Brockport (14-12, 6-4 SUNYAC) took a pair of games from the SUNY Potsdam softball team (3-20, 0-12) on Friday afternoon. The Golden Eagles won game one 4-0 and game two 5-0. Designated player Lauren Brace (Moriah, N.Y./Moriah) had three hits for the Bears.

The Golden Eagles scored three times in the first two innings of the opener. Designated player Kelly Proper drove in the eventual game-winning run in the bottom of the first with an infield hit. Third baseman Delaney Buckley scored on a throwing error in the bottom of the second and center fielder Brianna Ferchen followed with an RBI single to left to make it 3-0. Bears junior pitcher Carina Chirinko (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) held Brockport to just a run on two hits over the final three innings, but Potsdam's offense struggled. In the bottom of the fifth, Golden Eagles second baseman Erika Lazzaro drove in Ferchen for the contest's final run.

Chirinko (1-8) had a solid outing, allowing just two earned runs, scattering eight hits, and striking out three. Brockport's Jaime Berger (6-5) allowed just two hits and struck out 12 in her complete game shutout. Brace and first baseman Erin Murphy (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) each singled for Potsdam.

Brockport struck quickly again in game two. After Ferchen singled to lead off the bottom of the first, she stole second and then moved to third on a passed ball. However, Bears freshman pitcher Meghan Dougherty (East Greenbush, N.Y./Columbia) minimized the damage by pitching out of a one-out, bases loaded jam. The Golden Eagles loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the second on three straight errors, but again Dougherty battled back and stranded all three runners. However, Proper led off with a single to left in the bottom of the third and designated player Tabitha McBride homered to center to make it 3-0. Brockport added another run on a passed ball and led by four after three. Lazzaro made it 5-0 with an RBI double to center in the bottom of the fourth. The Bears had one hit in each of the first six innings, but Brockport pitcher Korey Kibling was able to keep them from scoring.

Dougherty (1-3) allowed five runs in her six innings, while recording two strikeouts and two walks. Kibling (7-4) blanked the Bears through all seven innings and struck out 10. Brace had two hits for Potsdam. Sophomore shortstop Jordan Ott (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton), Chirinko, junior second baseman Alexis Lerman (Fayetteville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) and junior third baseman Katie Marsman (Wantagh, N.Y./Wyoming Seminary) each had a hit for Potsdam.

The Bears look to bounce back tomorrow afternoon with a doubleheader at SUNY Geneseo beginning at noon.
