GENESEO, N.Y. – The SUNY Potsdam softball team (5-3, 0-2 SUNYAC) fell to the College at Brockport (6-7, 2-0 SUNYAC) in their SUNYAC opener Friday afternoon.

In the first contest, the Golden Eagles shutdown the Bears to earn a 9-0 victory. Brockport would find a rhythm in the batters box early with a triple and several singles to claim a 3-0 lead. The Golden Eagles continued to swing away and added two more runs in the bottom of the third to extend the lead to 5-0. Errors would plague the Bears as the Golden Eagles notched four runs in the bottom of the fourth to increase the deficit to 9-0. Potsdam attempted to generate momentum but strong pitching by Jaime Berger proved to be too much.

Freshman pitcher Jordan Sarat recorded two strikeouts in four innings pitched and allowed 10 hits. Berger allowed three hits in five innings and finished with five strikeouts. Brockport's Amanda Yuhas led the Golden Eagles, going one for three with two RBIs.

In the second game, Brockport used a fourth inning rally to defeat the Bears, 5-1. Senior Amanda Perry got the ball rolling for Potsdam in the first with a double to right field, driving in fellow senior Heather Johnson. Both pitchers would hold for two innings until Brockport broke out in the fourth. The Golden Eagles capitalized on several bloopers to the outfield to tally five runs and claim a 5-1 advantage. The Bears battled for the next three innings but a solid defensive performance by Brockport sealed the win.

Junior Ashley Thayer allowed eight hits in six innings and tallied three strikeouts. Perry and sophomore Carissa Cornwell each notched a double. Golden Eagle freshman Korey Kibling totaled seven innings on the mound, allowing four hits and totaling three strikeouts.

Potsdam continues SUNYAC play tomorrow versus SUNY Geneseo at 10:30 a.m.
