POTSDAM, N.Y.- The SUNY Potsdam women's basketball team (1-6, 0-3 SUNYAC) fell short to College at Brockport (1-7, 1-2 SUNYAC) 63-57 on Friday night at Jerry Welsh Gymnasium. Freshman guard Drew Dufrane (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) led the Bears with 16 points, while freshman guard Olivia Lebaron (Corning, N.Y./Corning Painted Post) recorded a double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds for the Golden Eagles.

Potsdam's offense started off strong with 15 points in the first quarter. Senior captain Patti Dorgler (Floral Park, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) got a steal from freshman guard Bailey Pratt (Ontario, N.Y./Wayne Central) in the first 10 seconds that lead to a fast break layup. Dufrane then hit from behind the arch and junior forward Emily Drake (Athens, N.Y./Coxsackie-Athens) added a layup for the first seven points of the contest. Brockport scored six during the 10 minutes and the Bears took the nine points lead into the second.

The offense continued with another 11-6 run that opened and closed with two 3-pointers from sophomore guard Secret Clark (Bronx, N.Y./NYC Charter for A.E.C.I.). After Clark's second three, Pratt answered with her own to ignite a 15-0 run to close out the quarter and Potsdam took the one-point lead into halftime.

Brockport held the 18-11 advantage in the third quarter with Lebaron scoring 10 points in the last five minutes to take the 45-39 lead.

Sophomore guard Abbey Smith (Bainbridge, N.Y./Bainbridge-Guilford) opened with five straight points with a 3-pointer at the seven-minute mark to get Brockport's lead down to one, but Lebaron answered with her own three and junior forward Lindsay Johnson (Waterloo, N.Y./Waterloo) hit a layup to extend their lead back to six. Lebaron scored the next eight points for the Golden Eagles, but Potsdam answered each basket with one of their own. The Bears got within three with a jumper from Smith, but another five points from Brockport sealed with 63-57 win.

Dorgler total 10 points, six boards, three steals and five assists, while Drake had a team-high nine rebounds. Smith rounded out the leaders with nine points.

Pratt ended up with 14 points with 12 of them in the second quarter and sophomore forward Emily Nestler (Henrietta, N.Y./Rush Henrietta) totaled eight points and six rebounds. Senior guard Faith Welch (Albany, N.Y./Catholic Central) tallied six points, five rebounds and five assists in the win.

Potsdam will be back on the hardwood tomorrow when they face SUNY Geneseo at 4 p.m.
