BROCKPORT, N.Y.-- The SUNY Potsdam volleyball team (9-15, 2-5 SUNYAC) made SUNY Brockport (16-9, 5-2 SUNYAC) work, but the Golden Eagles eventually secured the 3-1 victory on the first night of SUNYAC pool play at Brockport. Sophomore outside hitter Nicole Hansen (Fulton, N.Y./G. Ray Bodley) led the Bears with 10 kills.
Brockport took the first two sets 25-18 and 25-16, respectively. Potsdam's offense came together, while the defense held Brockport off for a 25-22 win in the third set, but the Golden Eagles held on for a 25-17 win in the finale.
Sophomore middle hitter Monica Mack (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) had six kills with a block and block assist. Freshman outside hitter Emme Price (Glendale, Ariz./Deer Valley) had five kills and a block, while freshman setter Alyssa Rogers (Anchorage, Alaska/Grace Chrisitan) and junior outside hitter Xanara Ruiz (Watertown, N.Y./Watertown) each had three kills. Junior libero Natalie Magallon (Commerce, Calif./Bell Gardens) had the team high for the Bears with 27 digs and senior setter Brianna Rodda (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem East) led with 27 assists.
The Bears are back in action tomorrow for the final day of pool play. They will start against Buffalo State at noon followed by Cortland at 5 p.m.
