Geneseo wins battle of Top 10s men's xcountry at Woods Invitational

Host Geneseo won the battle of top ten ranked teams at the Geneseo Mike Woods Invitational at Letchworth State Park on Saturday, as the eighth-ranked Blue Devils placed five in the top 14 to top the second place and seventh-ranked Saints and 36 other teams in the 8000 meter race.

Geneseo finished with 42 points while the Saints were second with 103 and RPI a distant third with 203. Hamilton was fourth in the huge field which included many of the teams which will run in the NCAA Atlantic Regional on the same course later in the season.

Saint junior captain Thomas Caulfield continued his string of top five finishes as he was third in the 534-runner field in 24:57.8. Ben Fazio of RPI was the individual champion in 24:46.5 and Isaac Garcia-Cassani was second in 24:53.1.

SLU's Sidi Abdoulaye was the top freshman finisher in the race, 12th overall in 24:25.1 and was the second Saint scorer in the 11th scoring position. Wesley Kirui finished 26th overall, scoring 24th with a time of 25:34.8, Spencer Patterson was 30th, scoring 28th in 25:39.3 and Joe Smith completed the Saint top five, 40th overall and scoring 36th in 25:48.4.

Ben Fishbein was the sixth man for the Saints, 86th overall in 26:22.3 and freshman Connor Fulk completed SLU's top seven, finishing 108th in 26:31.3.

Other Saint finishers included Andrew Jarombek in 113th, Brandon Moran in 117th, Adam Bankert 127th, Ellis Toll 137th, Jon Mitchell 145th, Jack Martin 180th, Evan Page 194th, Logan Mancuso 208th, Caleb Kessler 228th, Zane Belden 242 and Will Bronner 294th.

The Saints will see another NCAA venue in their next outing as they travel to Oshkosh, WI, the site of the NCAA Championship to run on the UW Oshkosh Invitational on Oct. 17.
