POTSDAM, N.Y.—Sophomore guard Nosa Onabor (Brooklyn, N.Y./Northside Charter) scored 17 of his 28 points in the second half, but SUNY Geneseo (6-3, 3-1 SUNYAC) held off the SUNY Potsdam men's basketball team (1-7, 0-4) 88-78 on Saturday afternoon. Freshman guard Danny Delsol-Lowry (Queens, N.Y./Queens H.S. of teaching) and sophomore forward Dante Langley (Schuylerville, N.Y./Schuylerville) each scored 10 points and grabbed four rebounds.

The first half was a back-and-forth 20 minutes. The Blue Knights raced out to a 12-4 lead with some accurate long range shooting over the first four minutes of the game. Potsdam answered with seven straight points and closed to within 12-11 at 13:50 with a 3-pointer from Delsol-Lowry. Geneseo immediately countered with a 10-0 run of its own ignited by back-to-back threes from freshman guard Tommy Eastman (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) and senior guard Jonathan Cohen (Scarsdale, N.Y./Scarsdale). Sophomore guard Matt Piercey (Ogdensburg, N.Y./Ogdensburg Free Academy) got the Bears back to within 26-24 with a 3-pointer with 7:25 to go in the half. A three-point play from Delsol-Lowry tied the game at 33-33 at 4:02. Onabor, Delsol-Lowry and Langley evenly split Potsdam's last six points of the half and the Bears trailed just 42-39 after 20 minutes.

The second half started in the same manner as the first. Geneseo got five of its first seven points from junior guard Kevin Crockett (Breezy Point, N.Y./Xavier) to build a 49-41 lead 2:05 into the final period. Buckets from freshman guard Aaron Armstrong (Lisbon, N.Y./Madrid Waddington), sophomore forward Serigne Kane (Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooklyn Prep) and freshman center Kristoff Saunders (Queens, N.Y./Queens H.S. of Teaching) and two free throws from Onabor made it a 50-49 contest with 14:53 remaining. Unfortunately, the Bears would get no closer. The deficit hovered between two and seven points over the next six minutes, but the Blue Knights started to pull away with eight minutes to go. Eastman scored on a fast break to give Geneseo its biggest lead of the game at 85-70 with 1:14 left. Onabor hit back-to-back threes in the last minute before the Blue Knights closed out the 88-78 win.

Senior guard John Decker (Lincolndale, N.Y./Somers) had a game-high 29 points along with six assists and four rebounds to lead Geneseo. Eastman was the only other Blue Knight to reach double digits with 10 points.

Geneseo shot nearly 53 percent from the floor to the Bears' 46 and edged Potsdam 33-31 in rebounds.

Next, the Bears head to Williamsport, Pa. on Dec. 17-18, for the Lycoming College Crosstown Challenge. Potsdam faces Nazareth College in the first round at 4 p.m. on Saturday. The Bears then finish the weekend against the host Warriors at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
