GENESEO -- The St. Lawrence men's soccer team continued a weekend scoring drought as despite outshooting their opponent and having a big edge in corner kicks for the second straight game, the Saints lost 1-0 at Geneseo on Saturday.
The Blue Knights scored the only goal of the game 4:38 into play as Colin Begy sent a through ball into the box and Ian Mart scored on a shot from the left side as Geneseo improves to 2-2-1 on the season.
"The game was almost identical to yesterday," said coach Bob Durocher. "We dominated play in the seocnd half, but we're not playing well enough. We came out flat, they got an early goal and while we had chances in the second half, we just couldn't score. We had a couple of open nets and shot wide...its frustrating."
The Saints had a 10-7 overall edge in shots including 8-4 in the second half and had a 10-1 advantage in corner kicks, but couldn't come up with a goal. Mike Madarasz made four saves for the shutout while Nate Goss-Woliner had two saves in his first start of the season for the Saints.
The Saints, now 2-2, will play their home openers at MacAllaster Field next weekend with RIT visiting Friday at 4 p.m. and Elmira Saturday at 2:00.
