GENESEO, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam women's soccer team (6-10-1, 1-8 SUNYAC) came up short in the last conference game against SUNY Geneseo (14-2-2, 7-1-1) with a 2-0 loss. The Knights got one goal from Leah Greene and another from Kelsey Raschke to get past the Bears.
In the first 45 minutes, the Knights came out putting the pressure on the Bears offensively, but was unable to found the back of the net. Geneseo had the shot advantage, 5-2 but Potsdam led in corner kicks, 2-1. Junior goalie Emily Lapage (Brushton, N.Y./Brushton-Moira) and Knight goalie Allison Stamp held their ground to keep the contest scoreless at the half.
In the 62nd minute, Greene tapped the ball in after a cross into the box by Raschke to take the 1-0 lead. At 89:05 mark, Raschke got her own goal when Lapage came out of the net for the ball and Raschke beat her to it and tap it in to seal the victory for the Knights.
Lapage recorded five saves in the loss, while her counterpart Stamp finished with two.
The Bears will return to the turf Tuesday when they head to St. Lawrence for their last game of the season starting at 3 p.m.
