ALBANY, N.Y.- The Sage Colleges (1-2) scored two first half goals and held off the SUNY Potsdam men's soccer team (2-1) 3-1 at the Albany College of Pharmacy on Friday night. Junior midfielder Michael Hunter-Wofford (Carmichael, Calif./Orange Coast College) scored his first goal as a Bear.
Gators forward River Seybolt struck first on a break-away at 24:06. Less than three minutes later, Seybolt fed the ball to fellow forward Derlis Zayas for a 2-0 Gator lead at 27:00. Despite the deficit, Potsdam outshot Sage 8-3.
Seybolt added his second goal of the contest at the 57:32 mark. The Bears mounted a late game push, firing off a series of shots before Hunter-Wofford scored on a feed from sophomore midfielder Theodore Bruschini (Wilton, NY/South Glens Falls) at 85:25. Potsdam outshot the Gators 18-2 in the second half, but couldn't get any closer.
Bears sophomore goalie Jakeb Mitchell (Brockport, NY/Brockport) finished with a save, while Gators goalie Michael Chiaravalloti made 11 stops. Potsdam finished with a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.
Potsdam heads to Castleton University on Sunday. The contest is scheduled for a noon start.
