Elmira, NY – Tyler Gallagher (Potsdam, NY) found the equalizer with 33 seconds remaining in regulation but the visiting SUNY Canton men's soccer team eventually fell to host Elmira College in overtime, 2-1, Wednesday afternoon on the road. The loss drops the Kangaroos to 8-7, while the win improves the Soaring Eagles to 6-6.

The hosts got on the board first in the 10th minute when Michael Girard played a long ball to Brian Lowe in the box who finished low and left past Roo keeper Evan Drew (Elizabethtown, NY) for the early 1-0 lead.

Nick Escalante (Whittier, CA) and Hunter Mowery (Elizabethtown, NY) had shots on goal for the Roos in the opening half as the Roos held a slight 9-8 shots edge in the opening half but the Soaring Eagles led on the scoreboard 1-0 at break.

SUNY Canton dominated the second half of play outshooting Elmira 13-5 over the final 45 minutes and despite a 9-3 shots on goal edge was unable to find the back of the net until the final minute. The Roos took advantage of a set piece as Escalante delivered a free kick into the box where Gallagher put a header on net that deflected off Soaring Eagle keeper Jordan Dougherty and into goal to tie the game in thrilling fashion.

Neither team had any scoring opportunities through the first eight plus minutes of overtime. With just over 90 seconds remaining in the first extra period Andre Germano headed a ball into the box that found Michael Bryant who finished past Drew into the left corner for the sudden death winner.

Abdulai Jagana (Bronx, NY) led all players in the contest with four shots on goal, while Escalante challenged the opposing keeper three times. Drew stopped five shots in net for SUNY Canton, while Dougherty made 10 saves for host Elmira. The Roos held edges in shots (22-14) and shots on goal (11-8).

The men's soccer team is back in action Friday when it travels to take on SUNY Institute of Technology in a 6:00 p.m. contest.
