Katie Gallagher recorded 14 points and three rebounds and was named to the Juniata Holiday Classic All-Tournament team to lead the St. Lawrence University women's basketball team to a 67-46 win over Gwynedd Mercy in the consolation game Saturday afternoon at Juniata College in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania.

With the win, the Saints improved to 5-4 on the season, while the Griffins fell to 5-5.

Second to Gallagher, Annabella Pugliese recorded a season-high ten points and five rebounds, while Katie Frederick and Jenny Scudder each added nine points and combined for seven rebounds.

Gwynedd Mercy opened up play with a quick 5-0 lead and a 3-pointer from Susan Bossler. A jump shot from Pugliese gave the Saints their first lead with just under three and a half minutes to play. After some back-and-forth action, Marlee Gunn made a layup to tie the game 12-12.

The Scarlet and Brown worked to extend their lead in the second quarter, holding off a quick five-point run from the Griffins with about five minutes to play. The Saints held a 29-21 lead at the break after a 3-pointer from Scudder with 20 seconds remaining. Scudder went on to shoot 3-for-4 from the arc.

By the third quarter, the Saints had amassed a double-digit lead over the Griffins, leading by 15 points with a fastbreak from Meghan Hynes and 17 points with a layup from Cara Waterson with 1:59 to play in the quarter.

Just about 30 seconds into the final frame, Marlee Gunn added a 3-pointer of her own extending the Saints lead to 21 points (54-33). St. Lawrence led by as many as 29 points in the final five minutes of play. The Griffins ended play on a six-point run, but were unable to erase an early deficit from the Saints.

"We couldn't get a good flow in the first half but made some real nice adjustments at halftime," said head coach Dan Roiger. "We really shot the ball well all game and that's a credit to playing team basketball with 23 assists). It was a good tournament for us, we keep growing every game."

Gwynedd Mercy was led by Bianca Adams with 10 points and two rebounds. Denise Sacco added six points, while Sydney Thompson tallied five points and three rebounds.

The Saints will return to Liberty League play and open up the 2018 schedule, traveling to Bard on Friday, January 5th and Vassar on Saturday, January 6th.
