Senior co-captain Julia Friesen netter the game-winner 1:28 into overtime, lifting the St. Lawrence University women's soccer team to a 1-0 upset in overtime over nationally-ranked #16 Skidmore in a Liberty League contest in Saratoga Springs, NY.

"Going into the game we knew Skidmore was going to apply a lot of pressure on us both defensively as well as offensively," said St. Lawrence head coach Franco Bari. "I thought we absorbed the pressure very well, the team did a fantastic job of sticking to our game plan, and executed well. That was a fantastic team effort."

St. Lawrence improved to 8-4-3 overall, handing Skidmore (10-2-2) its first loss at home. The winning goal came just 1:28 into the overtime period as Emily DePoy delivered a corner kick that eventually found the head of Friesen, who buried a shot into the top corner for the game-winner and her seventh goal of the season.

In the opening half, the Thoroughbreds controlled the majority of play, outshooting the Saints 10-1. Skidmore pressed early and nearly went ahead in the 12th minute, but St. Lawrence goalkeeper Kelsey West caught Christine Bellotti's powerful strike from the top of the box.

Bellotti came close again late in the first half, bending a corner kick towards the far post that was carried away by West.

The second half proved to be more balanced with the teams exchanging scoring opportunities. Skidmore goalkeeper Gab Lawrence turned away a long-range effort from Friesen and was quick off her line to intercept a dangerous cross from Laura Topf early in the second half.

Bellotti forced West into another difficult save in the 75th minute with a well-placed free kick from 25 yards.

St. Lawrence mounted one final attack late in regulation, but Lawrence was able to collect Nyssa LaClair's shot from the top of the box after a Saints restart.

Skidmore outshot St. Lawrence 16-8 and had a 6-2 advantage in corners. West made five saves to earn the shutout for St. Lawrence, while Lawrence finished with three saves.

St. Lawrence will wrap up its regular season with a Liberty League contest against Clarkson on Nov. 2 at Sandy MacAllaster Field at 1pm.
