St. Lawrence University's women's soccer team improved to 4-0 on the season and captured the championship at the Best Western Cardinal Classic at Plattsburgh, beating Oswego 2-1 on Saturday.

The Saints, who opened the tournament with a 2-1 win over host Plattsburgh received a goal and an assist from all tournament team selection Julia Friesen in Saturday's game. Erica Gobielle and Adriana Morra were also selected as all-tournament team members.

"The tempo of today's game was very high as both teams created quite a few chances. I was pleases with our back line as Oswego came out with a lot of pressure and we absorbed it well. Our offensive opportunities were outstanding and a few of our attackers really stepped up today. The performance was outstanding and while we have a lot of work to do, It was a great weekend for the Saints!"

SLU opened the scoring in Saturday's game against Oswego 6:50 into play as Friesen took a feed from Nyssa LaClair and dribbled around Oswego keeper Alyssa Glasshagel 6:50 into the game. The goal was Friesen's second of the season.

Oswego tied it when Tia Segretto scored her first of the season 28 minutes into play, but the Saints netted the game winner with 13:59 to go in regulation time when Friesen crossed the ball into the box and Samantha Rock tapped it in for her first goal of the season.

Kelsey West finished with seven saves for the win for the Saints while Glasshagel stopped five shots and Steph Hotaling three in goal for the Lakers.

SLU outshot Oswego overall 13-11 and had a 5-0 edge in corner kicks.

The Saints will host Nazareth and Elmira in games Friday and Saturday.
