Canton, NY – Despite near flawless conditions, scores were on the high side at the Partridge Run Golf & Country Club, but the Clarkson University Golf team nevertheless came away with the top spot among the three competing schools on Friday afternoon.

The Golden Knights 'A' squad won with a score of 332, two strokes ahead of host SUNY Canton (334). Clarkson's 'B' team was third at 336 and SUNY Potsdam followed with 339.

None of the 25 competitors was able to break 80 at the par-72, 6569 yard course, but a trio of freshmen scored 81 to pace the Knights and finish one stroke off the top spot. Cameron Anthony and Andrew Leek were consistent most of the day, and each shot 41 on the front nine and 40 on the back to help Clarkson's 'A' grouping. The top performer on the Knights' 'B' team was freshman Mike DiPaola, who scored 42 on the front and 39 on the back with a pair of birdies in his round.

Rounding out Clarkson's winning score of 332 were normal stalwarts Brad Belote and Chris Rust. Belote birdied number three but scored 42 on both the front and back for a total of 84, while Rust was solid on his start with a 40 on the front nine but just a 46 on the back for a total of 86. Freshman Graem DeLong shot 42 on the front but also scored a 46 on the back for an 88.

DiPaola highlighted Clarkson's second team, but freshman Jonah Miller also played well, scoring a 39 on the front and finishing his day by carding an 82. Seniors Brian Billings (86) and Anthony Monteleone (87) completed the 336 total, while Tyler Popp shot 89 in his first competitive round of the season.
