In a game where both Potsdam and Fredonia were seeking its first conference win of the season, it was the Blue Devils' Tyrone Clark, who had the deft shooting touch.
Clark, a senior guard who entered as SUNYAC's fourth-highest scorer, shot 16-of-24 from the field with five 3-pointers to score a season-best 45 points in leading host Fredonia to a 87-61 win over Potsdam on Friday night. Clark also had eight steals and seven rebounds.
Rob Duquette (Peru, N.Y. / Peru) led the Bears with a team-high 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting to go along with 10 rebounds for his sixth double-double of the season in 12 games. Duquette entered ranked fourth in the conference with 9.4 bounds per game and 16th in the conference in scoring with 13.2 points a game.
Fredonia (4-11 overall, 1-7 SUNYAC) shot 53.6 percent from the field and was especially good from 3-point range as it made 12-of-20 from beyond the arc.
The Bears (2-13 overall, 0-8 SUNYAC) trailed just 32-24 at halftime, but that's when Clark caught fire by scoring 29 consecutive points for the Blue Devils' team.
Fredonia opened with 10-2 run to begin the second half and later would go on another 10-3 run to capture a 54-35 lead with 13:22 remaining in the game.
Zac Adams (Potsdam, N.Y. / Potsdam) had eight points and two steals while Rishawd Hendricks (Brooklyn, N.Y. / Mount Zion Christian Academy) and Colin Peterson (Hilton, N.Y. / Hilton) added seven points apiece. \
Potsdam will play at Buffalo State Saturday at 4 p.m.
