Fourth quarter surge carries CSJ past Roos women’s basketball, 58-45

Canton, NY – Randi Conway led the women's basketball team with 11 points but a strong fourth quarter run earned the visiting College of St. Joseph a 58-45 victory on Sunday afternoon.

The Roos (2-11) held a 9-7 lead after a low scoring first quarter. Both team's offenses heated up in the second 10-minute period as Canton held a 23-18 advantage after Taylor Saltus found Conway for a three-pointer with 2:09 remaining in the half. The College of St. Joseph (7-3) closed the half on a 7-0 run to take a 25-23 lead into intermission.

Conway and Allison Fink led the Roos with six points each in the opening half, while Sade Rogers added five. Markell Marquez paced the Saints with nine points and 10 rebounds.

CSJ held a slim 40-39 lead with 6:21 remaining after Jenifer Morgan-Aubin hit a pair of free throws but the Saints used a 11-0 run over the next two minutes to open a 51-39 advantage with 4:22 remaining. The Saints made their free throws down the stretch to earn the 58-45 victory.

Conway finished with 11 points in 24 minutes, while Morgan-Aubin added 10 points and eight rebounds. Sade Rogers chipped in with nine points and three assists, while Taylor Saltus finished with five points, five assists and five rebounds and Allison Fink tallied six points and five boards.

Marquez led the Saints with 14 points and 12 rebounds, while Alexius Brooks also recorded a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Daija Black also scored in double figures with 11 points.

The women's basketball team returns to the hardwood on Tuesday when it faces Fisher College in the Vermont Tech Tournament at 3 p.m.
