Four Roos score in double figures vs. UMFK in women's basketball

Canton, NY – Four different players reached double figures but a strong second half from visiting University of Maine Fort Kent lifted the Bengals to a 76-68 win over the SUNY Canton women's basketball on Sunday afternoon at the Roos House.

Taylor Saltus (Clintonville, NY) paced the Roos with 18 points on 7-for-14 shooting and added four assists. The freshman knocked down four of her eight three-point attempts. Brianna Sayer (Hermon, NY) added 15 points, while Karyss Terrance (Hogansburg, NY) and Logan Tallman (Heuvelton, NY) posted 13 points apiece. Caseylynn Fulton (Saint Cloud, MN) chipped in seven points and a team-high 12 rebounds, while Tatiana Laroche (Elmont, NY) hauled down 12 boards.

The Roos (4-10) opened up an early eight-point lead at 12-4 after five straight points from Sayer. SUNY Canton extended its lead to as many as 14 with 4:21 remaining in the opening half after a Terrance lay-up. The hosts took a 38-29 lead into intermission.

SUNY Canton put on an impressive shooting performance hitting 14 of their 27 field goal attempts in the opening 20 minutes including a 3-for-4 mark from behind the arc. The team assisted nine of their 14 made field goals. Despite holding a nine point advantage the Roos had 16 costly turnovers, while UMFK turned it over just eight times.

The Bengals (9-4) used a 12-2 run in the first four minutes of the second half to take a 41-40 lead after a Kayla Richards jumper. The teams would play back-and-forth for the next three minutes before UMFK took the lead for good at 51-50 with 12:40 remaining. The Bengal lead would balloon to as many as eight although the Roos kept it close and got within three with 4:50 remaining before the final UMFK push.

Ericka Saucier led all players with 26 points and 13 rebounds for Fort Kent, while Danielle Carrillo added 19 points including five three-pointers. Richards added 11 points for the Bengals.

The women's basketball team has a week off before visiting Vermont Technical College next Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
