Potsdam, NY - Sophomore Tyler Cline (Tuxedo, NY) shot a tournament best three-over 75 for the Clarkson University Golf team as the Golden Knights opened their season with a second place showing at the Potsdam Invitational held at the par-72 Potsdam Town & Country Club Tuesday afternoon.

Host Potsdam won the event with an overall score of 314, while Clarkson took second (316), Oswego State (316) was third and SUNY Canton (345) finished fourth.Sophomore Tyler Cline - Photo by Tommy Szarka The Golden Knights won the tie-breaker as their fifth competitor had a better score than the Lakers' fifth man.

Freshmen Evan Cody (Malta, NY) and Scott Henning (Vienna, VA) shot 78 and 79, respectively, in the their first collegiate rounds for Clarkson, while senior Mike Sundstrom (New Haven, VT) rounded out the Clarkson scoring with an 84. Rob Wood (Westford, VT) enabled the Knights to take second overall at the event with a score of 86.

Clarkson's individual golfers, not included in the team scoring, also played well to start off the year. Freshmen Matt Blair (South Glens Falls, NY) and Nate Hagstrom (Clinton, NY) mirrored their classmates attempts with a 78 and 79, respectively, while senior Mike Mailhot (Massena, NY) shot 81. Nick Triassi (Rochester, NY) scored an 82 and junior Freddie Oakes (Syracuse, NY) shot 96.

Cline lost the top spot as medalist in a playoff.
