Schenectady, NY - With their two highest scoring halves of the year, the Clarkson University Men's Basketball had a breakout offensive performance on the second day of the Sig Makofski Classic, downing Westfield State 81-62 to earn its second win of the young season.

The Golden Knights improved to 2-5 on the season and will take on Potsdam State for the second time in less than two weeks when the two teams face off on Tuesday evening. Westfield State saw its record dip back below .500 at 3-4 overall.

Clarkson never trailed in Sunday's contest, taking the lead 34 seconds into the contest. The Owls stuck close to Clarkson through the first six minutes (12-10), but Clarkson doubled up its point total in 2:19, capped by a Drew Zlogar 3-point field goal at 11:16 that made the score 24-10. Westfield State would pull back to within eight five minutes later, but the Golden Knights went on a 15-1 run in the final 5:50 as Zlogar put an exclamation point on the run with a pair of 3-pointers in the final 90 seconds to push the margin to 22 points (43-21). The Knights shot 55.2% (16-for-29) in the first half and committed just four turnovers over that span.

The two teams mostly played even in the second half as Clarkson pushed its lead to as many as 26 points and saw it drop to as few as 22 in the first nine minutes. The Knights extended their lead to as many as 28 midway through the half and then saw it expand to 28 once again on a Malaquias Canery jumper with 4:06 to go. From that point, the Owls were able to make the score look better than it truly was, ending the game on an 11-2 run as both teams emptied the benches.

Four players finished in double figures for the Knights, led by Felix Abongo's 17. The senior also produced seven boards, two assists and three steals in the win. Derek Hart shot 6-for-9 from the field and had 16 points to go along with eight rebounds and a pair of blocks. Conrad Zampier made five of his eight shots from the field for 15 points, and Zlogar tossed in 13 points. Canery bolstered the effort with nine points, four rebounds and four assists. Westfield State saw 13 players score, but none finished in double figures. Jesus Sanchez led the Owls' charge with nine points.
