Clinton, NY – A day after lighting up the outside with 16 3-pointers, the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team continued its hot shooting from beyond the arc, burying 13 more 3-pointers in a 77-59 victory over Colby College in the consolation game of the Hamilton Invitational.

The Golden Knights evened their record at 3-3 with the victory and will return home to host SUNY Canton on Wednesday. Colby suffered its second straight loss to drop to 3-2 in 2016-17.

The Golden Knights opened the game with an 8-2 run, but saw Colby climb back into the contest to take the lead 13-12 at 13:09. That would be the only lead the Mules would enjoy on the day, as Clarkson received back-to-back 3-pointers from Mike Hayduk and Matthew Hornak and capped off a 10-0 run with a Liam Ellis in the course of three minutes. Colby would climb back to within four with just under five minutes remaining in the half, but the Mules would sputter from there, scoring just one point the rest of the way to finish behind Clarkson by nine at the break (32-23).

In the second half, Colby cut into the Clarkson margin on several occasions, getting all the way back within two points after a Steven Daley jumper made it 41-39 with 12:04 to go. The Mules and Knights would play virtually even for the next six minutes, but down the stretch Clarkson made a move to put its opponents away. Leading 57-51 with 5:57 remaining, Clarkson scored 10 straight points in less than 150 seconds thanks to four free throws from Malaquias Canery and a pair of 3-pointers from Hayduk. From that point Clarkson was able to cruise to the win, edging out to a game-high 20 before a late basket ended the contest at an 18-point differential.

Clarkson was within a 3-pointer of making half of its long-range shots for the day, going 13-for-28 from the perimeter. The Knights dominance from beyond the arc proved to be the difference, as Colby shot just 6-for-27 from the 3-point line and beyond.

Sophomore Liam Ellis more than doubled his collegiate career-high by scoring 19 points, which also just happened to be more points than he had scored in his first five games of 2016-17. Ellis is the fourth Clarkson player to score his career-high in the last week, joining Derek Hart (28), Drew Zlogar (30) and Malaquias Canery (22). Zlogar, who was chosen to the All-Tournament Team, added 16 points while Derek Hart had his second straight double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds, shooting 6-for-9 from the floor. Mike Hayduk enjoyed his homecoming to Clinton, recording 12 points on 4-for-8 shooting from the 3-point line. For Colby, Patrick Stewart had team-highs of 17 points and six rebounds, while both Sam Jefferson and Joe Connelly each recorded 11 points.
