Providence, RI - Freshman A.J. Fossen (Maple Grove, MN) capped off a thrilling victory on the road for the Clarkson University Hockey team, scoring the game-winning goal late in regulation as the Golden Knights defeated Brown 4-3 in its ECAC Hockey opener at Meehan Auditorium on Friday night.

Ranked 17th in the country, Clarkson owns a 7-1-1 overall record. The Knights will take a six-game unbeaten streak (5-0-1) into Saturday's game against defending national champion Yale. The Bulldogs skated to a 3-3 tie against St. Lawrence at Ingalls Rink on Friday night. Brown falls to 2-1.

The first career goal for Fossen will be a very memorable one for the rookie wing as he scored with just 1:53 remaining in the third on a high wrist shot to complete a solid road win for the Green and Gold. Freshman center Troy Josephs (Whitby, ONT) assisted on the game-winner that came just 63 seconds after Brown had tied the game 3-3.

The Knights received another balanced outing with four different goal scorers and 10 players recording a point. Senior Allan McPherson (Kinburn, ONT) paced the effort up front with a goal and an assist.

Clarkson's specialty teams play, which has been consistent all season, was a difference maker. The Knights went 2-5 with the man-advantage and killed off all four of the Bears' man-advantage opportunities.

The Bears scored early in the contest, but Clarkson took advantage of a string of Brown penalties to skate into the first intermission with a 3-1 lead.

Brown, coming off two wins last weekend at the Liberty Tournament, jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a goal by Ryan Jacobson at 4:15. Clarkson, however, battled back with three straight scores over the final seven minutes of the period to take the lead.

Junior defenseman Sam Labrecque (Granby, QUE) connected on the Knights' second power play of the period, firing in a slapshot from the point that rang in off the bottom of the crossbar at 13:01. Freshman defenseman James de Haas (Mississauga, ONT) and McPherson picked up the assists.

Skating on its third man-advantage opportunity of the period, senior Will Frederick (Allison Park, PA) banged home a pass from captain Ben Sexton (Kanata, ONT) at the side of the net for his first goal of the season. Sophomore defenseman Paul Geiger (Stouffville, ONT) also assisted on the power-play marker at 15:06.

With just 30 seconds remaining in the opening stanza, McPherson scored his team-high fourth goal of the campaign with assists going to sophomores Pat Megannety (Oakville, ONT) and Jeff DiNallo (Aurora, ONT).

After a scoreless second period, Brown wasted little time in closing the gap as the Bears' top line connected for the home team's second goal. Matt Lorito picked up a rebound off the post and tucked in a shot just 20 seconds into the frame. Nick Lappin and Mark Naclerio assisted.

Lappin tied it for Brown 3-3 at 17:04, but Knights came right back with Fossen's game-winner just 53 second later.

Clarkson outshot the Bears 35-33, Sophomore Greg Lewis (Mars, PA) improved his record on the year to 4-1 with a 30-save effort, including 13 second-period stops.
