In his first professional season, former Clarkson University Hockey forward, Julien Cayer hoisted the 2013 Kelly Cup as a member of the East Coast Hockey League Champion Reading Royals.

Reading defeated the Stockton Thunder 6-0, in Game Five of the best-of-seven Kelly Cup Championship Final match-up between the Royals and Thunder at Stockton Arena in Stockton, California on Sunday. With the win, the Royals won the ECHL Kelly Cup Championship over the Thunder, four games to one. Stockton featured former Golden Knights, Shawn Weller (2004-07) and Nik Pokulok (2009-13) on its roster.

After missing action since March 30, Cayer played in the final six playoff games, posting one assist. Cayer was selected for Reading’s Fan's Choice Awards "Heart Award" in 2012-13. During the regular season, Cayer played in 49 games, recording three goals and six assists as the Royals won the Atlantic Division and Eastern Conference titles during the regular season.

Cayer skated in 104 games for Clarkson from 2008-12, recording 14 goals and 19 assists.

Cayer joins David Seitz (1992-96) and Matt Beca (2006-10) has former Golden Knights who have lifted the Kelly Cup as an ECHL champion. Seitz won the Cup with the South Carolina Stingrays in 1997 and 2001, while Beca was with the Florida Everblades when they won the ECHL crown in 2012.
