Former Duke basketball star Christian Laettner coming to Canton

CANTON -- Christian Laettner, one of the most successful basketball players in NCAA history, is coming to the North Country and hosting basketball clinics at St. Lawrence University this October.

Laettner is the only player to ever start in four consecutive NCAA Final Four games, and he holds numerous NCAA National Tournament records. His senior year in 1992, he was the winner of the Wooden, Kodak/NABC, and Naismith awards as the National Player of the Year, and led Duke University to their second consecutive national championship, the first two of the school's history.

He was the third selection of the 1992 NBA draft, and was on the All-Rookie Team and an NBA All-Star in his 13 years as a professional. He also was the only college player on the 1992 USA Olympic Team, known as the "Dream Team", which won the gold medal in Barcelona.

Laettner continues to share his passion for basketball and knowledge with boys and girls of all ages, skills, and backgrounds. The Christian Laettner Basketball Academy's principle in teaching is to "Pass the Ball", which event organizers say Laettner "believes is a lost and forgotten art form in the game of basketball."
