Potsdam, NY – Junior Ashley Flick scored five times and senior Christine Wright connected on four more as the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team picked up a 9-7 non-league win over Oswego State Wednesday afternoon at Hantz Turf Field.

The Golden Knights evened their record at 1-1 overall and will look to pick up more momentum for their Spring Trip in Tennessee when they take on Utica College on Saturday afternoon. Oswego fell to 0-1.

Flick and Wright each scored a goal in the first 12 minutes before Oswego got on the board midway through the half. Both teams showed patience on offense looking for opportunities but neither was able to get much going thanks to swarming defense on each end. Wright found Flick (one of three times she would do so on Wednesday) to push Clarkson up 3-1 at the 13:23 mark, but Oswego's Briana Kimble would narrow the gap back to one goal on a free-position shot at 11:52. That was as close as the Lakers would get, however, as Wright quickly responded by running the draw straight in to score just 13 seconds later. A goal with less than five minutes to go gave Clarkson a 5-2 edge at the break.

Oswego's energy level dropped in the early minutes of the second half and Clarkson took advantage. The Knights scored twice in the first 10 minutes and pushed their lead to four (7-3) following a Christine Wright goal The Lakers drew back within three a few minutes later, but it appeared as if the game would be put away when Flick (10:59) and Wright (5:23) scored goals late to make the score 9-4. The Lakers were far from through, though, scoring three times in the next three minutes to get within two with just 2:20 to go. With the momentum on the Lakers' side, Clarkson's Taylor Collins won the ensuing draw and ran the ball into the Oswego end. From that point on Clarkson raced around the Oswego perimeter and kept the ball away from the Lakers to run out the clock.

Flick scored five goals to lead Clarkson while Wright produced seven points on four goals and three assists. Hanna Gleason led the Knights with three groundballs and Samantha Gladd made five stops in the Clarkson crease. For Oswego, Briana Kimble scored three times, twice on free-position shots, and Teresa Shattuck added three points on two goals and an assist. Lindsey Eggers and Gemma O'Kane each added a goal. Angela Ponto made eight saves for the Lakers.

Clarkson led in shots (25-18) and groundballs (13-8), while the Lakers won the battle on draws (10-8).
