Jenkintown, PA – The SUNY Canton baseball team used a five run sixth inning to turn a 4-3 deficit into an 8-4 lead on its way to a 10-5 victory against host Penn State Abington on Friday.

The Roos (4-7) opened the scoring in the top of the second when Jeremy Baez (Bronx, NY) smacked his second home run of the season.

The Nittany Lions (4-9) evened the score with one run in the bottom of the fourth. Luis Caballero (Jacksonville, FL) prevented further damage getting out of a bases loaded jam with no outs as he struck out a batter and induced a ground ball as SUNY Canton turned a double play.

SUNY Canton regained the lead in the fifth when Wilson Matos (Brooklyn, NY) hit his third home run of the early season on a two run shot scoring Edward Malinoski, Jr. (Evans Mills, NY).

Abington took their first lead of the game 4-3 in the bottom half of the inning as they scored three runs on a 2 RBI single from Meyers and RBI base hit from Perilstein.

The Roos big inning came in the sixth as Travis Schindler (West Islip, NY), Christian Nazario-Cruz (Naguabo, Puerto Rico) and Seth Douglas (Reedsburg, WI) all produced RBI singles and Matos laced a 2 RBI double.

Brandon Welch (Constable, NY) added a solo shot, his second homer of the season, in the seventh and Abington got one back in the eighth. Welch drove home Baez in the ninth on a sacrifice fly to center as SUNY Canton secured the 10-5 victory.

Caballero earned his first win in a Roos uniform on the mound tossing four innings in relief. Khalil Bratton (Queens, NY) earned the no-decision surrendering one earned run over three innings with four strike outs and two walks.

The baseball team is back in action on Saturday for a doubleheader at Swarthmore College beginning at 12 p.m.
