Five run eighth leads Cardinals past Roo baseball

Canton, NY – Visiting Plattsburgh State plated five runs in the eighth inning to earn an 8-2 victory v. the SUNY Canton baseball team on Monday.

The Cardinals (6-15) scored one run each in the fourth and fifth innings on a sacrifice fly and an RBI single. The Roos (5-20) responded in the bottom of the fifth when Seth Douglas poked an RBI single through the left side to scored Edward Malinoski, Jr.

Plattsburgh State regained the two-run lead in the sixth on a single to right center. Brandon Welch got Canton within one on a sacrifice fly to left field bringing home Douglas.

The Cardinals erupted for five runs in the eighth on four runs and an error to seal the win.

Mitch Crispens earned his first win of the season giving up one run on eight hits over five innings, while Brantley Marion tossed the final four innings surrendering two hits and one run for the save. Austin Lamay took the loss on the mound despite giving up just a single run on two hits over four innings with a pair of strike outs.

The baseball team returns to the diamond on Tuesday for a non-conference nine-inning game at 4 p.m.
