Canton, NY – Andrew Fitch imposed his presence in the paint as he finished with seven points, 17 rebounds and seven blocks as the SUNY Canton men's basketball team earned a 74-65 win v. Cazenovia College on Saturday.
The Roos (3-10) opened the game on an 8-0 run over the first 4:27 but Cazenovia (2-9) responded with a 12-2 run to take a 12-10 lead. The teams battled back-and-forth as the Wildcats took a 35-29 lead into intermission.
Wil Thompson and Rendell Garnes led all players with eight points for the visitors, while Ibu Smith led the Roos with seven points on 3-for-4 shooting.
The Roos battled back over the first seven minutes of the second half taking their first lead of the half at 45-44 with 13:26 to play following an Adrian Williams layup in transition.
Canton ended the final 5:35 of the game on a 17-7 run to earn the 74-65 victory.
Williams led all players with 24 points, while Jordan Stewart added 15 points and a game-high six steals. Danny Santana chipped in 11 points. Joseph Werner tallied eight points and Fitch and Smith finished with seven apiece.
Garnes led four players in double figures for the Wildcats with 14 points, while Ahmon Powell and Jaceary Menes recorded 11 points each. Thompson added 10 points in 18 minutes before fouling out.
The men's basketball team returns to the hardwood on Tuesday when it visits SUNY Potsdam at 7 p.m.
