First-year Grant Fisher led the St. Lawrence men's swim team with the lone top-five finish on the first day of competition at the Liberty League Championship meet in Rochester on Friday afternoon. The Saints are eighth with 112 points heading into Saturday's morning session.
Diving results from the opening session were not included in Friday's final scores.
Fisher put together a fourth-place swim in the 500 free with a time of 4:57.17, Matt Bauer finished 24th in the event (5:22.84).
In the day's two relay events – the 200 free and 400 medley – St. Lawrence earned three top-20 finishes. The foursome of Brandon Walker, Grant Reeder, Hank McCormick and Kirby Kaylor finished 11th in the 200 free relay, while Reeder, McCormick, Samuel Song and Kaylor were 14th in the medley (3:57.38). Walker, Bauer, Austin Clark and Grant Fisher also competed in the medley relay, finishing 17th (4:15.11).
Walker and Kaylor placed in the top-25 of the 50 freestyle event, with Walker clocking in at 22.97 to come in 20th and Kaylor at 23.21 in 25th.
The Saints will return to the pool at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning for the first of two sessions to close out the championship meet.
