The St. Lawrence University women's basketball team managed just 12 points against top-ranked Tufts University, and despite a strong second half, could not recover, dropping a 63-42 decision Friday night in the first round of the Williams College Classic in Williamstown, Massachusetts.
St. Lawrence (0-4) scored only five points in the first quarter and seven points in the second and trailed the Jumbos 34-12 at the end of the first half. The Saints bounced back to outscore Tufts (5-0) 18-13 in the third, but the Jumbos sealed the victory with a 16-12 scoring advantage in the final quarter.
Jenny Scudder came off the bench and led the Saints with 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the floor including one 3-pointer. Caroline Dalton added eight points and six rebounds while Kaelyn Kohlasch added seven points and six rebounds for the Saints.
After connecting on just 5-of-23 shots in the opening half, the Saints were 8-for-14 from the field in the third quarter. Scudder scored 11 of her 13 points in the second half.
The Saints are scheduled to face host Williams College at 3 p.m. Saturday in the second day of the tournament. Williams defeated Clarkson 66-49 Friday in the first game of the classic format tournament.
