CANTON – Matt Russell was the overall winner In the first Frozen Foote Series four-mile road race of the season, held Dec. 12.

Russell, 32, had a time of 21:59. The second male finisher was Jon Ignatowski in 22:47 followed by Jacob Erdman in third place crossing the line in 23:07.

Victoria Lederer was the first woman of the morning completing the course in 25:38. Steph Rogers placed second in 26:17 followed by Kristin Betrus in 26:55. Shondel Boyden and her dog were the fastest human-dog duo of the day.

Participant ages ranged from 9 to 75; 161 runners and walkers completed the four-mile course.

The races are held regardless of weather conditions, starting at 10:30 a.m. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. in the lobby of Appleton Arena, Miner Street.

Registration fees are $5 for the series or $2 per race.

Frozen Foote long-sleeved t-shirts will be awarded to runners who complete three or more of the four races. The out-and-back course on the rolling hills of Miner Street Road starts and finishes in the Appleton Arena parking lot.

The second Frozen Foote Series four-mile road race is on Saturday, Jan. 9 at St. Lawrence University.

The other races in the Saturday series will take place on Feb. 13 and March 12.
