Randolph, VT – Allison Fink and Taylor Saltus both recorded double-doubles as the Roos outscored the University of Maine Presque Isle 27-8 in the third quarter to earn a 67-53 victory on Wednesday in the Vermont Tech Tournament.
Fink led all players with 26 points to go with 12 rebounds on 12-for-19 shooting, while Taylor Saltus narrowly missed her second triple-double of the season with 10 points, 17 rebounds, eight assists and five steals. Randi Conway chipped in 18 points and nine rebounds for the Roos (3-12).
SUNY Canton jumped out to a 15-12 lead after the opening quarter but the Owls (3-8) outscored the Roos 18-11 in the second period to take a 30-26 lead into intermission. Canton used a decisive stretch as they outscored UMPI by 19 points in the third quarter and cruised to the 14-point victory.
Rhylee Wright led the Owls with 22 points but was the only player in double figures. The Roos held a 50-36 edge in rebounding including a 20-14 mark on the offensive glass which led to 18 second chance points. The Roos also dominated points in the paint, 32-14.
The women's basketball team returns home on Friday when they host the Albany College of Pharmacy at 2 p.m. in the Roos House.
