Fild hockey player Croyle named Defensive Player of the Year; Five Saints earn All-Conference

Senior co-captain Julia Croyle has been selected the 2011 Liberty League Defensive Player of the Year, while four other members of the St. Lawrence University field hockey team joined her by earning All-Conference honors for their play during the season.

Croyle, who was the heart of the back line, is the first player from St. Lawrence to earn the conference's Defensive Player of the Year honors. The Wenham, MA native was also First Team All-conference, earning post-season accolades for the second time in her career. Julia finished third in the league in defensive saves after starting every game for the Saints. Despite her outstanding play on the defensive end of the field, she also added three goals including a game-winner.

Sophomore goaltender Nicole Matos joined Croyle as First-Team All-Conference selection, earning post-season honors for the first time in her career. The Greenwich, CT native led the league in saves (158) and saves per game (9.88), as she concluded the season with a 9-8 record and a .803 save percentage.

Senior co-captain Emily Riley and junior Courtney Davis were voted to the league's Second-Team, while senior Erika Swits was given Honorable Mention status.

Riley, whose season ended prematurely due to injury, earned Second-Team All-Conference honors for the third time in her career. The Saratoga Springs, NY native led the Saints in goals (9) and assists (7), despite only playing in 11 of 17 games. She scored the game-winner three times during the season.

Davis, a midfielder for the Saints, was named to the Second-Team for the first time in her career. The Schenectady, NY native started in all 17 games and finished with a goal and two assists. Meanwhile, Swits earned Honorable Mention for her offensive efforts throughout the season. The Ballston Spa, NY native was second on the team with eight goals and two assists for 18 points.

Nationally-ranked Skidmore College's forward Kelly Blackhurst earned Player of the Year, while the RPI's Liana Viaggio won Rookie of the Year. William Smith head coach Sally Scatton and her coaching staff was named Coaching Staff of the Year.
