POTSDAM, N.Y.—Fifth-ranked SUNY Cortland (7-1, 2-0 SUNYAC) won its fourth in a row with a 19-5 victory over the SUNY Potsdam women's lacrosse team (1-7, 0-2) on Tuesday afternoon at Maxcy Turf Field. Red Dragons junior midfielder Ashley Gentile (Balwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) had a game-high four goals and sophomore attack Kristen Ohberg (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster) had a contest-best five points on two goals and three assists. Junior attack Bri McClusky (Watertown, N.Y./Immaculate Heart) led the Bears with a goal and an assist.

Cortland opened the contest with a 9-0 run over the first 14 minutes. The stretch included two goals each from Gentile, and fellow midfielders Tara Monaghan (Stoney Point, N.Y./North Rockland), Nicole Bello (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) and Emma Hayes-Hurley. McClusky set up sophomore midfielder Murphy Newman (Canton, N.Y./Berkshire School) to get Potsdam on the board at 14:58. The Red Dragons closed the half with a 5-1 run, with Bears senior captain Margaret Wall (Rochester, N.Y./Aquinas) scoring on an assist from sophomore midfielder Alyssa Ferenczy (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) with 18 seconds left in the half. Cortland led 13-2 at the break.

Potsdam opened the second half with goals from sophomore attack Michaela Cole (Parishville, N.Y./Parishville-Hopkinton) at 22:01 and McClusky at 20:53. However, the Red Dragons wrapped up the game with a 6-1 run as time wound down. The Bears final goal was ESPN highlight quality. Senior captain Emily Petit (Queensbury, N.Y./Queensbury) forced a Cortland turnover behind Potsdam's goal and scooped up the ground ball. She then sprinted the length of the field through a sea of red and beat Red Dragon junior goalie Liz Ingalls (Centerport, N.Y./St. Anthony's) with a low rocket.

In goal, Bears sophomore Devan Olschewske (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua) made 11 saves. Cortland sophomore Jaclyn Beshlian (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh) earned the victory with four saves and two goals allowed in the first half. Ingalls allowed three goals in the final 30 minutes.

Potsdam is back in action on Saturday at 1 p.m. when the Bears host Morrisville State.
