CANTON -- FC Freeze U12G came from behind in the final seconds to tie the CAVS of Watertown at St. Lawrence University July 16.

The CAVS opened up scoring 12 minutes into the first half of play. Less than a minute later midfielder Olivia Mace passed to center striker Katie Cowen who threaded the ball back to Mace as she sprinted past her. Mace then dribbled by her last defender and scored with a well-placed shot in the top right side of the net. The CAVS then scored their second goal as a result of a penalty kick. With less than a minute remaining in the half the CAVS scored their third goal.

Midway through the second half of play Cowen made a great centering pass to forward Jane Moosbrugger. She quickly fired a low shot which skirted by the left post for the score. With less than 30 seconds remaining in the game Freeze made a final charge on net. Cowen was fouled approximately 10 yards outside of the penalty box. Mace quickly set the ball down and blasted a shot inside the top left post to tie the game. The final score was 3-3.

The Freeze defense of Natalie Cowen, Madelyn Dinneen, Teaghan Phalen, and Quinn Woodward played well and limited the CAVS to six shots on goal. Kyla Phalen made three saves for Freeze. Kennedy Emerson made three of the Freeze’s nine shots on goal.

FC Freeze travel to Indian River Tuesday, July 21 at 6:30 for their final regular season game of the year.
