FC Freeze U12 Girls scored early and kept scoring in their 6-0 win against third place Upstate United SC Storm FC of Watertown Wednesday.
Within the first two minutes Olivia Mace of Canton dribbled past midfield and drove a 35 yard shot into the top left post for an unassisted goal.
At 10:20 Lisbon’s Emily Jordan dribbled by three defenders, and when she was 20 yards out she too targeted the top left post for the score.
Two minutes later Mace was able to split two defenders leaving her one-on-one with the Storm’s goalie. Mace juked the goalie for an easy shot into the center of the net.
At 4:04 Jordan passed to Canton’s Hannah Butler who, on a two-touch, blasted a top shelf shot for the score.
At halftime the score was 4-0. With a strong backfield Brushton’s Kyla Phalen had not had to make any saves.
At 21:59 in the second half Potsdam’s Natalie Cowen dribbled down the left sideline and made a great centering pass to Butler. Butler shot the ball past the goalie’s left shoulder for the score.
At 13:32 Jordan was on the right sideline when she threaded a pass to Butler, who was heavily defended in front of the right side of the net. She one-touch passed to Potsdam’s Katie Cowen who was charging in near the left pipe. With a defender on her left shoulder Cowen one touched the ball with her left foot into the net for the final scoring of the night.
Phalen made two great saves late in the match to secure the shutout.
The defense made up of Natalie Cowen, Parishville’s Quinn Woodward, Brushton’s Teaghan Phalen, and Norwood’s Madelyn Dinneen has held opponents to eight goals in eight games, while their offense has generated 39 goals.
The team travels to Watertown Thursday, July 9 for a rematch with the Storm. They return home to SLU to take on Watertown’s CAVS on July 16 at 6:30.
