Five straight goals in the last 10 minutes lifted the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team to a 13-12 victory over rival St. Lawrence on Wednesday afternoon at Hantz Turf Field. It was the first time in team history that the Golden Knights prevailed over the Saints.

Clarkson is now 7-2 overall and 2-1 in the Liberty League while St. Lawrence falls to 2-7 with a 0-3 Liberty League Record.

Clarkson would score the first two goals with sophomore Paige Fayette (Theresa, NY) scoring the first of her five goals, followed by a goal from sophomore Ashley Flick (Watertown, NY). St. Lawrence would score the next two goals to tie the game up. Junior Emma Jeffery (Baldwinsville, NY) scored a man-up goal at 19:37 to regain the lead, but the Saints scored the next four goals to take a 6-3 lead. Consecutive goals by Jeffery and Fayette made the score 6-5, but St. Lawrence scored the last two goals of the half to take an 8-5 lead into the break.

Flick scored the first goal of the second half to make it 8-6, but St. Lawrence scored three straight goals to make it 11-6, the largest lead of the game. Fayette fired in a free position goal at 15:10 and sophomore Kate Dillon (St. Albans, VT) followed with a goal of her own at 14:38. St. Lawrence scored 15 seconds later to make it 12-8, but that would be the last goal the Saints scored. Fayette scored her fourth goal at 10:15 and then junior Christine Wright (Watertown, NY) scored at 8:48. Freshman Taylor Collins (Syracuse, NY) scored at 5:55 to draw the Green and Gold within one goal. They finally were able to tie the game on a Wright free position goal at 1:02.

After controlling the ball off the draw, Clarkson was able to find Fayette who was fouled with less than 30 seconds left. Her free position shot found the back of the net for her fifth and final goal of the game. It would prove to be the winner as the Saints were unable to get a shot off in the final 28 seconds.

Wright led the team with six points on two goals and four assists with Fayette right behind her with five points, all on goals. Junior goalkeeper Danielle Tani (Heuvelton, NY) finished with 10 saves. Collins led the team with three ground balls and Tani also scooped up a pair. The Golden Knights were outshot 28-20, but held an 18-11 advantage in groundballs.

The win was not the only celebration for the Golden Knights as earlier in the day head coach Bennett Gaebel's son, Jack Bennett Gaebel, was born.

Clarkson's next game will be next Tuesday when they travel to SUNY Canton for a game at 4:00 pm.
