Canton, NY – Randi Conway scored nine points and added 10 rebounds but a slow start hurt the SUNY Canton women's basketball team in a 56-38 loss v. Alfred State in the Roos House on Saturday afternoon.
Alfred State jumped out to an early 20-6 lead but Jenifer Morgan-Aubin scored just before time expired to get the Roos within 20-8 after one. The teams were relatively even over the next 10 minutes as the Pioneers took a 32-19 advantage into intermission.
Tylar Barbato led Canton with six points in the opening half, while Sade Rogers added four. Catherine Bialecki paced Alfred State with 13 points and eight rebounds.
The Pioneers extend their lead to 20 at 45-25 after the third quarter. The Roos outscored Alfred State 13-11 over the final quarter but held on for the 56-38 victory.
Conway led the Roos with nine points and 10 rebounds, while Tylar Barbato added eight points. Jenifer Morgan-Aubin and Allison Fink chipped in with six points apiece.
Bialecki led all players with 20 points and 17 rebounds for Alfred State, while Steffanie Preston and Allison Danielak posted 10 points each.
Alfred State shot 44 percent from the field while the Roos hit on 19 percent of their field goals.
The women's basketball team is off until February 10th when they visit Alfred State at 6 p.m.
