POTSDAM, N.Y.— Sophomore midfielder Brooke Falsion (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport) scored twice as the SUNY Potsdam women's soccer team (9-4-1, 2-3-1 SUNYAC) shut out SUNY Fredonia (3-12, 0-6) 4-0 on Friday afternoon. Sophomore midfielder Rylie Murray (Berkley, Mich./Berkley) had a goal and two assists and sophomore forward Olivia Seamans (Bolton Landing, N.Y./Bolton) chipped in a goal and a helper. Senior goalie Bri Thibeau (Salem, N.Y./Salem) made five saves for her 21st career win and 14th shutout.

Potsdam put pressure on the Blue Devils defense from the outset. After several near misses, the Bears broke through in the 16th minute. Seamans played the ball forward to Murray and she beat Fredonia sophomore goalie Kendall Owczarzak (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster) at 29:41. Just three over three minutes later, Seamans scored from the right corner of the box after handling a pass from sophomore midfielder Rachael Venne (Ellenburg Depot, N.Y./Northern Adirondack) and Potsdam led it 2-0. With 8:31 left in the half, Murray picked up a throw-in at midfield and sent a long pass ahead. Falsion picked the ball up in stride and scored on a breakaway to make it 3-0. The Bears took the lead and an 8-2 advantage in shots into the break.

Fredonia junior defender Audrey Yokopovich (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) had the first scoring chance of the second half in the 50th minute, ripping a shot from the top of the box, but Thibeau smothered it. Junior forward Jaci Morr (Monroe, Mich./Monroe) countered at 55:20, driving a pass from Seamans toward the net. However, Owczarzak charged out to snatch it out of the air. The Bears ratcheted up the offense again after the chance. In the 60th minute, senior captain Kaylen Van Wagner (Red Hook, N.Y./Hotchkiss) rang the crossbar with a rocket from 30 yards out. With just over 24 minutes remaining, Thibeau robbed Fredonia senior forward Alexis Moreland (Newfane, N.Y./Newfane) to keep the Blue Devils off the board. Senior midfielder Kaleigh Creeden (Rock Tavern, N.Y./Washingtonville) sent a long shot on goal from the right side of the field minutes later, but again Thibeau was there to scoop it up. Potsdam answered with quality chances from sophomore forward Amber Hyatt (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) and Murray in the next five minutes. Falsion put the game away at the 82:51 mark after connecting with Murray again to make it a 4-0 contest.

Owczarzak finished with three saves on the day. The Bears outshot the Blue Devils 17-8 in the contest and had a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Potsdam hosts No. 23 Buffalo State tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. on Senior Day.
