UTICA, N.Y.—The SUNY Potsdam women's soccer team (6-1) defeated Utica College (1-3-1) 5-2 on Friday night. Senior midfielder Brooke Falsion (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport) scored twice, while fellow seniors Rylie Murray (Berkley, Mich./Berkley), Amber Hyatt (Jamesville, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) and Rachael Venne (Ellenburg Depot, N.Y./Northern Adirondack) scored the other three for the Bears.

Potsdam completely dominated the Pioneers in the first half, outshooting the hosts 15-2. The Bears broke through just 6:38 into the contest as Hyatt set up Falsion to make it 1-0. Murray doubled the advantage at 37:36 when she buried a penalty kick. Despite managing just two shots, Utica was able to get them both on goal, a trend that would frustrate the Bears early in the final period.

Abby Reilly got the Pioneers on the board with the first shot of the second half and Utica was within one. Fortunately, Falsion continued to step up for Potsdam, netting her second at 63:40. Mikayla Blumenstock then countered with a header goal just over three minutes later to keep the Pioneers in striking distance. Hyatt extended the lead back to two at 72:07 with Potsdam's fourth tally of the night. Venne put the game away at 81:43 with a helper from freshman Mackenzie Bowie (Mechanicville, N.Y./Mechanicville). Murray rang the post with just over five minutes remaining, but the score remained 5-2 after the final horn.

Bears sophomore goalie Gabby Hobika (New Hartford, N.Y./New Hartford) earned the ninth win of her career with just four saves. Allison Wagner made 13 stops on the night doer Utica. Potsdam outshot the Pioneers 24-8 and had a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.

With her two goals, Falsion now leads the SUNYAC with 18 points on the season and has 86 points on 37 goals and 12 assists in her career. She needs 16 to catch Hall of Famer Jodie Ziemba's 102 for the program record. Murray is second in the SUNYAC with 11 points and remains in seventh place on the program's all-time scoring list with 52 points (14g, 24a).

The Bears are now 12-11-1 in their all-time series with Utica, but are 5-0-1 in the last six meetings.

Tomorrow, the Bears head to Alfred State for a 5 p.m. battle with another Pioneers squad.
